Maya Bitadze Delivers a lecture at Tbilisi State University

Tbilisi: Maya Bitadze, who is chairperson of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee Delivered a public lecture At Tbilisi State University. The lecture was to highlight the environmental rights of Citizens. large number of University students participated in the meeting.

Meeting with the students of Tbilisi State University along with the representatives of the Student Parliament and the Environmental Information and Education Center and was held within Human Rights Law Week.

Maya Bitadze, speaking specifically on the occasion, added that “Environmental law is a new dimension in legal area and it includes the protection of the human right to live in a healthy and ecologically clean environment irrespective of their country, region, geographical location, etc. Moreover, Environmental rights include two different but interconnected directions. First, it should be ecocentric which means protecting the environment and its components which includes flora, fauna, living organisms, soil, water, and air, whereas the second doctrine is the anthropocentric approach which assumes that we must protect the environment in order to protect human rights as well as human exitance on earth. Being responsible citizens we should control human actions to cause less damage to the environment so that nature cause less damage to people”.

Additionally, Maya Bitadze spoke about the history of the creation of international human rights law and the emergence and importance of the environmental component in it. As right to a clean and healthy environment is also regarded as a basic human right across the globe.

During the lecture she also focused on the impact of resource use and environmental pollution on human life and legal approaches to these issues.

Environmental protection issue has become an international issue of attention. The international community and international environmental protection agencies and organisation have already warned to take immediate steps to reduce the negative effects of climate change and global warming. Both climate change and global warming have a direct effect on the Environment.

Recently COP28 session was Held in Dubai, a city in the United Arab Emirates. At that summit, it was reiterated again by the international leaders to make a collective and immediate effort for the protection of Environment. Any kind of damage to the Environment is seen as a threat to human existence by environmentalists and advocates of environmental protection at the international level.

At the occasion, a question-answer session was also held where Maya Bitadze answered the questions asked by the students.
