UNICEF Georgia held a meeting in Poti

The Georgian wing of the UNICEF(United Nations International Children Emergency Fund) held a significant meeting in the city of Poti to discuss children issues.

The Georgian wing of the UNICEF(United Nations International Children Emergency Fund) held a significant meeting in the city of Poti. This was held with the support of the European Union. In this specially held meeting the deputy mayors of Samegrelo-upper Svaneti municipality participated as well.

The meeting was held under the framework of a joint project of the UN Children’s Fund and national associations of local authorities. Moreover it was held in the format of a unified municipal cooperation platform. This platform has been created with the support of the European Union.

 

As per the information provided by the organizers of the program the main objective of the platform is to share the best available practices and knowledge among the different municipalities and provide them the equal opportunities in child-friendly social program implementation.On the same occasion the needs of families with children were thoroughly discussed by all the participants.

The representatives of all the participating municipalities were addressed by Nino Rukhadze who is a special official of the UN Children’s Fund in Georgia. They also talked about how to improve the functioning of municipalities for the decentralization of strategy of the country.

Another important objective of the meeting was to exchange the best practices for implementing the children-oriented programs.Meanwhile the executive director of the NALAG (National Association of the Local Authorities of Georgia) addressed the meeting and underlined the importance of the decentralization policy of the Georgian Government.

It is noteworthy that the role of UNICEF is very important for the protection of children’s rights across the globe. The agency also played its role in safeguarding the interests of children who have been stuck in conflict zones.

The representative of the agency expressed their concern over the violation of human rights of children in occupied territories as well. They all agreed that the central government must initiate special measures for the protection of children’s rights across the country.

The Georgian side expressed their readiness to implement the suggestion and other advice of a representative of the agency and said that the protection of children’s rights is always a great priority of the Georgian government in all circumstances.
