Tbilisi: The Minister of Environment and Agriculture Otar Shamugia attended a working meeting on forest sector reform. Minster said that all the necessary action will be taken to bring sustainable reforms in the forest sector of the country.
It is noteworthy that at this important meeting the various activities that have to be implemented in the light of the results of the national forest census were discussed by all and the action plan for 2024, strategic directions and in general the progress of the reform were also discussed in details as well by all the participants.
It was also underlined by all the attendees that preparing forest management plans, increasing the scale of reforestation, and improving the mechanism of the supply of small resources for the population remains the main priority of the Government.
Speaking specifically on the occasion the Minister of Environment and Agriculturec Otar Shamugia said “Effective implementation of the Forest Code and the development of the forest sector to ensure the preservation and improvement of the quantity and quality indicators of our forests is our top priority”
He also added,”To support forest sector reform we actively continue to cooperate with international partners to overcome existing challenges and achieve positive results even faster than the past years”.
It is noteworthy that in recent years important steps have been taken to strengthen sustainable forest management in Georgia. The National Forest Agency has carried out forest inventory works on more than 700,000 hectares in previous years ,moreover the volume of reforestation works is increasing every year.
Nationwide 54 “busy yards” have already been established and 16 more “busy yards” will be opened this year to increase the efficiency of the operation. At the same time the Agency’s regional forest services will fulfill the special needs for forestry operations that are getting ready for the equipment.
The working meeting on forest sector reform was attended by the First Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture Nino Tandilashvili, Deputy Kakha Kakabadze and heads of relevant structural units of the Ministry also.
