Otar Shamugia the Georgian Minister of Environment and Agriculture met with Minister of Environment, Energy and Climate of the Republic of Iceland Goodleighur Thor Tordarson. Both sides discuss some issues including ways to overcome climate change challenges and prospects for bilateral cooperation in this regard.
During the meeting, the Georgian side provided information about the, 2030 strategy of climate change and the action plan of 2021-2023 to the members of the delegation of the Republic of Iceland. It was noted that sharing Iceland’s experience is important for Georgia in terms of fighting climate change.
Minister Otar Shamugia stated while speaking said that “Deepening bilateral cooperation with Iceland and sharing experience is very valuable for Georgia. Climate change is a major challenge for the whole world and tackling it requires active cooperation between countries. In recent years Georgia has been actively working on environmental reforms. Last year our country received the status of a candidate country for EU (European Union)membership which commits even faster and more effective steps towards fulfilling its commitments. I would like to point out that the adoption of all major regulations is under EU recommendations and in this process the support of our partner and friend countries is particularly valuable for Georgia”.
On the other hand the Minister of Environment, Energy and Climate of the Republic of Iceland Goodleighur Thor Thordarson talked about the importance of bilateral cooperation between countries and noted that Iceland is ready to share experience and support Georgia in overcoming environmental challenges.
At the same time the meeting was attended by Nino Tandilashvili the First Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture, representatives of the Ministry’s as well as the state and private sector of the Republic of Iceland.
The Ministry of Agriculture and environment protection also took to their social media handle and shared the information in this regard. The social media users also appreciated the strong bilateral cooperation between both countries as well.
