Tea Tsulukiani the Georgian Minister of Culture and Sports has opened the renovated Akhaltsikhe Puppet Professional State Theater. It was officially opened with a performance based on Erekle Deisadze’s play “Enjoy your meal”.
Along with the Minister the event was attended by the member of the Parliament of Georgia, Majoritarian MP Anton Obolashvili, Mayor of Akhaltsikhe Municipality Irakli Lazarashvili, Deputy State Commissioner David Vardiashvili and Chairman of Akhaltsi Municipality City Council David Lomidze as well as artistic director of the State Puppet Theaters Union, Nikoloz Sabashvili, representatives of local government, Dec Anozi Nikoloz Abramashvili and guests.
It is to be specifically mentioned that the renovation of theater building with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Akhaltsikhe Municipality Hall was started in 2023 a cafe was arranged and a hall was renovated as well.
It should be noted that from now on the theater will offer performances to the older generation also. Moreover in the first half of the day it will host children and in the evening it will hold performances for older audiences. Notably “Enjoy your meal” is a play for adult audiences.
Subsequently the play will tell the story of a young woman who wants a happy family but she is a victim of abuse by her husband for domestic violence. The man is wearing a mask of a caring, respectable persona and the woman cannot convince the public that she is a victim of domestic violence and, unfortunately, cannot receive sympathy from public. The play shows how a person can be sacrificed by the indifferent and unbiased attitude of society.
It is noteworthy that theatre have been named after Giorgi Mikeladze in Tbilisi the Professional State Theater for Puppets named after Jacob Gogebashvili in Kutaisi, and the Professional State Theater in Akhaltsikhe Puppets. Later on all of these theaters merged. The new organization was called the Union of Professional State Theaters of Puppets of Georgia.
