Georgia: The Higher Education Quality Service and USAID’s “Supreme of Justice Program” organized an external working meeting with the members of the Board for Authorization of Higher Education Institutions.

The meeting was attended by the First Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, Alexander Tsuladze, Acting Director of the National Center for Development of Education Quality Lasha Margishvili, members of the Board of Authorization of Higher Education Institutions, and Representatives of the Center’s Higher Education Quality Service.

The purpose of the meeting was to familiarize participants with the standards and regulations for granting authorization to higher educational institutions and the activities implemented and planned by the Center for the Development of the Quality of Higher Education.

Participants in the work meeting discussed important issues related to the authorization process for higher education institutions, including the legal, professional, and ethical standards of the Council’s operations in both a local and international context.

It is important that the second cycle of the authorization process for higher education institutions be implemented during the current year.

24 higher educational institutions were evaluated according to the updated authorization standards 2018. Therefore, a re-evaluation of these higher education institutions is planned for 2024.

To effectively conduct the assessment process, the Center implements supportive events for both the Board of Authorization and local or international experts and representatives of higher education institutions.

The purpose of this type of work meeting is to familiarize ourselves with the legislative basis, standards, and other legislative acts and agree on the principles of evaluation so that the process can be as consistent, transparent, objective, and impartial as possible.
