“Meliora” an award being conferred for the last five years for the corporate social responsibility initiative of the companies in Georgia will be given in the month of June this year. The chief organizer of the award competition is CSRDG(Center for Strategic Research and Development of Georgia).
As the first such kind everyone needs to know what the competition for awards is! The competition has the aim to promote the responsible business conduct among the local and international companies working in Georgia.The main sponsor of the award is “element holding” which was established in 2007. Moreover, the competition is held under the framework of the project “Civil Society STAR Initiative” financed by the European Union as well as the KAS (Konrad Adenauer Foundation).
The word Meliora came from the Latin language. In Latin Meliora signify “the best”. So the purpose of this award is also to recognize the contribution of the best corporations in different areas of the national economy. The award also recognized the contribution of these companies in the direction of corporate social responsibility. This also encourages the other companies to follow the winning companies and take steps for adopting policies towards corporate social responsibility.
The awards used to be given in a variety of different categories of CSR (corporate social responsibility). As per the objective of the award contest this is not only the big companies but also the small ones that can contribute to CSR for sustainable development with the adoption of a reasonable business approach.
59 companies are competing this year with 86 CSR projects under nine different categories. The application were accepted between January 15 to February 20, 2024. On the other hand, the CSRDG is making its best efforts for the promotion of stable and good governance in the corporate world along with efforts of poverty reduction.
It is to be noted that Applications will be evaluated by an independent jury of experts from Georgia and foreign in the field based on predetermined criteria. Moreover the winning projects and companies will be announced in the month of June 2024 at an impressive award ceremony.
