Georgia’s Minister Nino Tandilashvili attends Petersberg Climate Dialogue

Nino Tandilashvili the First Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia attended the 15th Petersberg climate dialogue held in Germany. The participants discussed many issues including climate change, global warming etc.

The session in  Berlin was jointly hosted by the governments of the Federal Republic of Germany and Azerbaijan. The participants of the meeting also discussed many targeted innovative ideas and future cooperation issues at the forum. Nino Tandilashvili on his part while speaking at the high-level session underlined the importance of the  Petersburg climate dialogue and emphasized the importance of holding the 29th climate conference in Baku. According to him “This is a good opportunity for the South Caucasus region to better represent our region’s challenges in terms of climate change.”

Nino Tandilashvili also highlighted the important actions and progress taken by Georgia to combat climate change and emphasized how fulfilling climate change commitments is very important in the process of Eurointegration. He further added that Georgia strives to be climate-neutral by 2050 and, at the same time consistently fulfills all its obligations under the Climate Change Association Agreement.

On the other hand, the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Olaf Scholz, and the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliev while attending the session stressed the need to have an effective global front to address the issues concerning the climate.

It is worth mentioning that ” At this St. Petersburg Climate the high-level official from the 40 countries comes united on a single platform to discuss the common issues. These officials and representatives included the ministers from the European Commission, EU member states, UK, USA and African countries and senior officials  to discuss specific issues aimed at overcoming the crisis caused by climate change.”

The dialogue was founded in 2010 at the initiative of former German Chancellor Angela Merkel and its purpose is to prepare negotiations for the UN Conference on Climate Change (COP) by uniting selected states every year.
