Tbilisi: Giorgi Amilakhvari the Georgian Minister for Education, Science, and Youth held an introductory meeting with the Permanent Coordinator of the United Nations in Georgia Didar Trebucq. The minister discussed important topics with him having special focus on the educational reforms under progress in Georgia.
It is worth mentioning that at the meeting the minister congratulated the Permanent Coordinator of the United Nations on his appointment to a new position. Didar Trebucq was appointed as the new Permanent Coordinator of the United Nations in Georgia in June this year. Moreover the Georgian minister also thanked the United Nations for supporting the development of the education sector in Georgia.
Georgian Minister Giorgi Amilakhvari introduced the guest to the ongoing and planned reforms at the pre-school, general, professional, and higher education levels. He also apprised the Permanent Coordinator of the United Nations in Georgia about the steps that need be taken for the development of youth policy and future plans.
Republic of Georgia has been implementing many projects for the development of the education sector under the guidance of the United Nations. It is specifically mentioned that the Unified National Strategy of Education and Science for the 2022-2030 for Georgia has been created to uplift the educational sector of the country.
This policy and its bi-annual action plans will at the same time are bound to serve as the national reference point. Moreover the parameters mentioned in the above policy will also guide the Georgian government in the formation as well as effective implementation of the policies related to the country’s education sector with a special focus on rural areas.
During the meeting the minister underlined that the Ministry has had many years of fruitful cooperation with the United Nations and a number of important programs have been implemented in recent years within the framework of this partnership.
The Permanent Coordinator of the United Nations in Georgia Didar Trebucq on his part have positively assessed the ongoing reforms in the education system and promised full support to the minister in implementing new initiatives. He also assured the Georgian Minister of continued future cooperation and assistance as well.
