Culture Ministry announces Competition for winning literary award “Ana”

The Georgian Ministry of Culture and Sports has announced a competition to win the literary prize “Ana.” Thea Tsulukiani spoke about the Competition at an August 19, 2024 briefing.

The minister noted that the literary Competition, founded in 2022, is related to Ana Kalandadze and is dedicated to women and writers. The Competition is annual, and its primary goal is to promote, represent, and encourage female authors.

In addition, one nomination will apply to both male and female authors and will be given for a work dedicated to a woman’s theme. Award for “Ana” This year is notable because 100 years have passed since the birth of Ana Kalandadze, the queen of Georgian poetry.

The Ministry of Culture announces the Competition for winning the literary award “Ana” every year.

Private law legal (publishers/publishing houses) registered in Georgia and Georgian citizens natural persons have the right to participate in the Competition.

Literary works created in Georgian and/or Georgian translated into foreign languages by modern female authors were published as a book the year before the award was announced.

Winners of the Competition will be announced in the following nominations:

  • “Female prosaic” – for the best prose collection;
  • “Female poet” – for the best poetry collection;
  • “Female translator” – for the best translation;
  • “The author of the best works on the topic of women”.

The prize for each nomination is 5,000 GEL (considering taxes set by Georgian legislation); the competition winner will also receive a seal.

According to the terms and conditions of the Competition, a contestant is entitled to apply for different nominations; however, only one piece of work/collection may be submitted in one nomination. If the same person wins different nominations, a prize will be given for each nomination.

A five-member competition commission consisting of recognized specialists in the field of literature is established annually to announce the competition winners and prove them to the minister.

This year, applications for the Competition will be accepted from August 19, 2024, to September 9, at noon in the Ministry, address: Tbilisi, Sanapiro Street. N4, in print or electronically via the official ministry email—info@culture.gov. GE.

The award ceremony for the competition winners will be held in December.

For information, the Ministry of Culture established the literary award competition “Ana” in 2022 and this is the third time this year.

Last year, the literary award “Ana” was given:

  • The nomination “Female poet” goes to Irma Beridze for the collection “Katsma Dareka” and Lela (Marine) Gaburi for the collection “On the Path of Fitri”;
  • Natia Rostiashvili, nominated for “Female Prosaicist” for the book “Another School”;
  • Marina Balavadze, nominated for “Female Translator” for the translation of Jean-Paul Sartre’s book “What is Literature? “;
  • There was no competition for the nomination “Author of the best work on women’s theme.”
