The Ministry of Culture and Sports of Georgia deeply mourns the loss of the esteemed artist, Tinatin Merkviladze, whose profound influence on Georgian musical culture will be forever remembered. They extend their heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues, and relatives.
Tinatin Merkviladze was born in C. In Kutaisi. She graduated from Kutaisi Music School in 1949, and in 1954 – vocal department of Tbilisi State Conservatory, named after Vano Sarajevo.
Since 1955, Tinatin Merkviladze has been the leading soloist of the Tbilisi musical comedy state theater named after Vaso Abashidze. From 1984, she taught at the Music Department of the Tbilisi State Theater Institute.
Tinatin Merkviladze, a true luminary, was honored with the titles of Honored Artist of Georgia (1961) and People’s Artist of Georgia (1976). His significant contributions have left an indelible mark on the development of Georgian professional vocal music.
The work of Georgian composers held an essential place in the artist’s repertoire. He played more than 100 successful roles, including Maro, Marekhi (Z. Paliashvili, Daisi”, Absalo, and Eteri”), Christina (R. Gabichvadze, “Chrichina”), Facia, Tina (etc. Milorava, lovely niece,” Song about Tbilisi”), Manana (a. Kereselidze, “Jazomania”), Nino (a. Shaverzashvili, “Nino”). She played the leading roles in the operetta. Etakishvili’s “Three Novelas”, g. Tsabadze’s “Great Trio,” “Melodies of Snowy Mountains,” O. Tevdoradze’s “Schweik Goes to War,” v. Azarashvili’s “Ninth Wave,” B. Kvernadze’s “Wives and Husbands.” Notable from other repertoire are her roles: Maritza, Silva (Kalman, “Maritza,” “Silva”), Eliza Dulittle (Lou, “My Beautiful Lady”), Asia (Hajibekov, “Arshin Mal-Alan”), Chanita (Miliutin, “Chanita’s Kiss” and others.
As part of the Ministry of Culture’s esteemed project, ‘Theater Treasure’, which is dedicated to preserving the rich heritage of Georgian theater, Tinatin Merkviladze’s video portrait was recorded. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
