Tbilisi: The Internal Affairs Ministry of Georgia has announced the creation of “Territorial Group” to ensure a fair and transparent election.
Vakhtang Gomelauri, the internal affairs minister of Georgia informed that ministry has issued a degree on the last day of September, which was published on October 4. The groups will include members of the police force. They will be tasked with detecting and preventing any kind of violation.
The group will work to ensure no violation is reported before, during or after the election process. The members of the group will coordinate with the local police department to ensure a “free, safe and peaceful environment” for the election scheduled for October 26.
According to a press release by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the group members and officials have been instructed to take every necessary step, as per the law to make the election process peaceful.
It is worth noting that the orders contained in the degree will be in force from the date of publication to the date of the final result so that no person or party can influence the voters. The degree also binds the authority concerned to create this group no later than October 18.
As per the information the group will include in it: –
- Director of local units of ministry
- Head of the local police department
- The official is appointed by the head of the Central Criminal Police Department and the head of the Ministry’s Department of Special Tasks.
The group will plan necessary police action for possible threats to the election process at any stage. They will be allowed to take strict action, including arrest, if necessary against the accusers.
The decree of the Internal Affairs Ministry concludes with comments that police officers of this degree will be duty-bound to act without bias. Their actions should be natural for all political party representatives as well.
