Georgia: Full rehabilitation of the Ortachalhesi bridge on the Mtkvari river is at its beginning stage. At present, preparatory studies for the project, which include various technical and engineering work are underway.
The Tbilisi City Hall shared the glimpses of the rehabilitation process on its official Facebook page on July 15, 2025, Tuesday. The City Hall also shared a small note along with its photographs.
Notably, the mayor of Tbilisi Kakha Kaladze was there with deputy Irakli Bendeliani. He noted, “Ortachalhesi bridge was in an accidental state and its rehabilitation is underway.” “In recent years, we have renovated many bridges, As for the works, the bridge will be reinforced, where there were problematic areas will be worked on. Works will be completely completed by November. Sidewalk will be arranged, light poles will be installed,” added Kakha Kaladze.
It is worth noting that phase one studied the primary archival materials of the bridge and hydroelectric station, which are required to analyze the construction details. In addition, the dismantling of the passage on one side of the bridge has already been carried out. Simultaneous calculation of loading on the bridge is being carried out.
Due to ongoing works, traffic is restricted to only one lane of the bridge. After completion of the studies, rehabilitation works will begin, including new construction elements of the bridge, repair and reinforcement of damaged parts, a modern water system, and waterproofing works. Also, railings will be renewed and strengthened.
The project is implemented by the Civil Infrastructure Development Service of Tbilisi City Hall. The cost of rehabilitation works is 1,800,000 GEL.
Along with the mayor, Giorgi Abutidze, Head of the Civil Service for Infrastructure Development, Beka Mikautadze, Head of Krtsanisi District, Head of Isanisi District, David Khabeishvili, and Majority Deputy of Krtsanisi District Levan Japaridze were present.
