The Chairman of the Adjara Government, Zurab Pataradze, together with the Chairman of the Supreme Council of Adjara, Tsotne Ananidze, attended the traditional holiday “Maretoba” held in Shuakhevi.
The mayor of Shuakhevi municipality, Omar Takidze, opened the event and thanked the guests for their participation and involvement in the public celebration.
Zurab Pataradze congratulated local people on “Maretoba” and the St. George holiday. During his speech, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of public holidays and noted that maintaining a continuous intergenerational connection, as well as developing the mountain, is one of the top priorities of the Government.
“From Mareti Valley to the whole region, Adjara, Georgia, I want to congratulate St. George and the national holiday – “Maretoba“. As we can see, there is a big crowd- the elderly and the young together, carrying on the great tradition that was founded about 20 years ago. Today we see the importance of celebrating public holidays, the unity of people, continuous connections between past and future, and of course, the development of our mountain. I am glad to have the opportunity to celebrate and congratulate you on this holiday,” said the Prime Minister.
During the event, the award ceremony of “Honorary Mareti” and the presentation of the honorable pupils, as well as cultural and sports activities, including the exhibition of photographs depicting local culture and the history of the Mareti Valley, were held.
Today, the government representatives decorated the memorial of the heroes who died for the unity of Georgia with flowers. The Members of the Georgian Parliament also attended the event, as well as the Government of Adjara, the members of the High Council, and representatives of local self-government.
