The delegation of the National Archives of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia, at the invitation of the State Archives of Poland, paid a working visit to the Republic of Poland. During the visit, the members of the delegation got acquainted with the experience of their Polish colleagues and the work of local archives.
The National Archives of Georgia shared glimpses of the visit on its official Facebook page on August 5, 2026, Wednesday. A small note about the delegation’s visit was also shared along with its glimpses.
Head of the Infrastructure Development Service of the National Archives Ilia Lomidze and Head of the Department for Relations with the Public and International Organizations Sofio Jobava visited the State Archives of Warsaw, as well as the newly opened archival infrastructure in Krakow and Katowice. The heads of the host archives introduced the guests to modern visions of arranging document storage facilities, the latest air conditioning, ventilation, and fire extinguishing systems operating there, the ongoing work in restoration laboratories, reading rooms, and outstanding historical documents preserved in the archival collections.
During the visit, a meeting was held with the Director General of the Polish State Archives, Pavel Pietshik, with whom the prospects of deepening bilateral cooperation were discussed. The parties agreed that in order to share experience, Georgian restorers will visit the Polish State Archives Restoration Laboratory.
The visit of the delegation of the National Archives to the Republic of Poland further confirms the long-standing partnership and professional connections between Georgian and Polish archives.
The working visit aimed to strengthen institutional cooperation between the archival authorities of Georgia and Poland while promoting the exchange of professional knowledge and best practices in archival management, preservation, restoration, and digitization of historical records. The initiative also provided an opportunity to explore modern technologies used in the protection and conservation of documentary heritage.
