The Head of the National Bureau of Expertise, Giorgi Murvanidze, met with the new head of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Jo Burton, on August 18, 2026, Tuesday.
The National Forensics Bureau of Georgia shared glimpses of the meeting on its official Facebook Page on August 18, 2026, Tuesday. The Bureau also shared a small note about the meeting along with its glimpses.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the progress of ongoing cooperation, exchanged views on future joint activities, and highlighted the importance of continued professional collaboration in addressing humanitarian issues.
The National Bureau of Expertise and the International Committee of the Red Cross have a long-standing and close partnership. Within the framework of cooperation, several important international projects and joint initiatives have been implemented over the years, which serve to strengthen professional capabilities and resolve issues of humanitarian importance.
According to the small note shared by the National Forensic Bureau it should be noted that, one of the most important directions of cooperation between the parties is the process of searching for and identifying the remains of missing persons in the territories of Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region.
This project has been running continuously and successfully since 2014. Experts from the Biological and Medical Expertise Departments of the Bureau are directly involved in the process; through their professional activities and coordinated cooperation between the parties, 272 identified nests have been distributed to families.
At the end of the meeting, the guests visited the laboratories equipped with modern technology of the Bureau’s Biological Expertise Department, learned about the specifics of expertise production and the latest news.
