Georgian police said they have taken into custody a person linked to the murder of a young man whose body was found with multiple stab wounds on 27 October, 2026.

The subsequent investigation revealed that the suspect and the teen had engaged in an argument that escalated in intensity, ultimately resulting in the suspect stabbing the teen in the chest with a knife, according to witnesses. Afterward, the suspect left the scene.

The police began investigating the case straight away. After the efforts of the special divisions and the measures taken at first, the police managed to identify a wanted person in Sighnaghi district (in Kakheti region). The man was detained by law enforcement agencies on a hot trail (soon after the incident). Law enforcement agencies did not report when, where and how he was identified.

Police have also recovered the weapon used in the attack. The bladed weapon was seized as evidence and will probably be examined in relation to the case at the next hearing.

An open case is being handled in accordance with Article 108 of the CC (Georgia Code, intentional murder) where the maximum penalty is 15 years of imprisonment.

Officers were unable to locate the men. Officials did not comment on the circumstances of the event or if the men knew each other. The possible charges that may be filed against the defendant at the start of his case may be altered depending on the information collected by the prosecutor which may change the nature of the charges legally.

In Georgia, after a person is taken into custody for such a matter they must be arraigned before a court within 72 hours of taking in the person; this arraignment must be requested by the prosecutor who requests the arraignment – which, in the case of serious crimes, the prosecutor will normally apply for the person’s detention. The judge will then determine on the application as to whether the person should be detained.

The police are still investigating. It’s likely that witness statements will be taken, the police may be asking if there’s any CCTV footage and the situation may need to be clarified by testing the scene or injuries. We might learn more as the situation evolves.

The defendant has to be proved guilty in a court of law first before being guilty.
