A regular meeting was held with representatives of the sector to discuss the changes implemented within the framework of the primary health care reform, current processes, and plans. The Minister of Health, this time, met with representatives of medical institutions in West Georgia.
The Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons, Labor, Health and Social Welfare of Georgia shared its glimpses of the regular meeting on its Official Facebook Page on August 29, 2026, Saturday. A small note about the meeting was also shared along with its glimpses.
Mikheil Sarjveladze focused on the importance of a strong primary health care circle, the main function of which, according to the minister, is disease prevention and timely delivery of necessary services to the population.
The meeting continued in question-answer mode. The meeting was also attended by representatives of medical institutions: Zaza Lominadze, Chairman of the Committee of Health and Social Affairs; Zurab Pataradze, Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara; Zurab Pataladze and Minister of Health and Social Protection of Adjara Autonomous Republic Nino Nizharadze.
The primary health care reform will include an expanded package of services for citizens, including additional laboratory and instrument access. Also, a new funding model will take care of patient needs based on age and assess health care outcomes.
The changes will help strengthen the role of primary health professionals, improving vaccinations, screenings, and quality of service.
At the pilot stage of the reform, 6 primary health care institutions were involved in the program, and then, as a result of the compliance assessment, 43 institutions.
The process of enrollment of primary health care providers into the updated model will continue step by step – institutions can submit applications to the National Health Agency until October 1, 2026. If the criteria are met, the institutions will join the updated funding model from March 1, 2027.
