A meeting of the “Council Working on Issues of Persons with Disabilities” was held at Ambroluri

At the Ambrolauri Municipality City Hall, an important meeting was held recently. This important meeting was attended by Deputy Mayor Tamar Kevanashvili, members of the Council and parents of persons with disabilities.

At this important meeting various issues on the agenda were discussed at the meeting. Some of important issues includes are mentioned below:

1. Health and Social Services – The Council session discussed the accessibility and improvement of health and social services
2. Accessibility of rehabilitation and therapeutic services
3. The need to expand services for persons with disabilities in state programs
4. Issues of support for socially vulnerable persons with disabilities
5. Awareness raising and information meetings – The Council particularly emphasized the need to raise awareness in society

The following programs were also planned during the meeting also:

1. Information meetings and trainings for parents and the public to increase awareness of the needs of persons with disabilities
2. Special educational activities to inform teachers, school administration and students
3. Increased civil society involvement to strengthen support for an inclusive environment

It is also worth to mentioned that a services available for persons with disabilities and their impact in the municipality were also discussed on this occasion. A Day centre for persons with disabilities operates in the city of Ambro Lauri and a multifunctional rehabilitation centre in the village of Sadmeli which provide significant support to beneficiaries were also discussed.

Similarly at the meeting, parents focused on the importance of these institutions and emphasized how positively the services available in these centres have changed the lives of their children. They noted that the centres not only create opportunities for receiving services necessary for development and rehabilitation, but also contribute to social integration, strengthening independence and improving the quality of daily life.

2. Expand leisure and entertainment opportunities for children and adolescents with disabilities
3. Promote inclusive sports and cultural activities
4. Organize excursions and outings, which will promote their social integration and gain new experiences

The Council will actively continue to work on these issues so that the rights and needs of persons with disabilities are maximally considered in the municipality’s policy.
