The Chairman of the Adjara Government, Zurab Pataradze, got acquainted with infrastructural works and ongoing projects in Kedi municipality on August 10, 2026, Monday.
He inspected the road infrastructure in the Merisi-Namonastrevi direction, the rehabilitation process of the Merisi village public school, and also the restoration works of the embankment wall damaged by the natural disaster in the Kedi central park.
According to Zurab Pataradze, active infrastructural works are underway in all directions in the municipalities, and the arrangement of roads and communication arteries for the strengthening of the highlands remains one of the main priorities of the government.
“Our vision is related to the strengthening of mountainous Adjara, and the ongoing projects in Keda Municipality serve this very purpose. We got acquainted with the progress of the rehabilitation project of the Merisi-Namonastrevi road in the Merisi Gorge. The new road will connect the Merisi Gorge with the Shuakhevi Municipality and Mount Ghoma, which will improve the movement of the population and significantly increase the tourism opportunities of the municipality. Interest in mountainous Adjara is growing every year, and that is why a well-functioning infrastructure and road network are especially important. Within the framework of the rehabilitation project of the Merisi Public School, the learning environment will be completely renovated, and the school will be equipped with modern equipment. The works will be completed in October, and students will have the opportunity to receive education in a modern, well-equipped environment. Today we met with the local population and talked about existing needs and ongoing projects. With such projects, we are creating better conditions for the population and strengthening the region,” said Zurab Pataradze.
Rehabilitation works on a 3.3-kilometer motorway in Meris village of Kedi municipality are in the active phase. Reinforced cement-concrete pavement has already been laid on some sections of the road, and artificial and protective waste construction is currently underway. The project is planned to be completed this year. The upgraded road will improve mobility for residents and help fully grasp the area’s tourist potential. More than 3.5 million GEL will be spent on the project.
At the same time, large-scale works are underway in the public school named after Fridon Turmanidze of the village of Merisi, whose contingent consisted of about 100 pupils, while the renovated building is designed for 300 pupils. Interior spaces will be fully renovated within the framework of the project. Also, classrooms, gym, library, and the surrounding area will be equipped, and a fire alarm system will be installed. The works will be completed in October this year.
Today, the chairman of the government got acquainted with the reconstruction and strengthening of the shoreline wall damaged by last year’s earthquake in the central park named after Friedon Khalvshi, which is planned to be completed by the end of the year. Zurab Pataradze also met local people and talked about the priorities of the development of the ridge. The chairman of the government noted that the main task is to develop infrastructure in the rural areas, create decent living conditions and maximize the tourism potential of the municipality.
