The Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic – Tsotne Ananidze, attended the opening event of the memorial exhibition of self-taught Lazi painter and poet – Khasan Helimish at the Adjara Art Museum.
“Artists even compared him to a philosopher. Hassan Helimishi was a heavy cargo train called Soviet repressions. Such exhibitions are of the utmost importance to represent such persons. We know that his biography was related to Georgia. It is one of the talents that God gives to man, but it is even more appreciated when you dedicate this talent to your country,” – Tsotne Ananidze said during his speech.
Participants of the event were greeted by the member of the High Council of Adjara – Mindia Diasamidze, who thanked the organizers of the exhibition for presenting the artist’s work.
A painter raised on Lazur traditions, he was a servant of poetry since childhood – he wrote poems in Georgian, Lazur, and Turkish, and was passionate about choreography. His paintings were mainly based on Lazur motifs, and the best works, with their artistic and visual skills, are close to Niko Pirosmani’s paintings.
At the opening event of the exhibition, dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the death of the artist, members of the High Council of Adjara – Fati Khalvashi, David Tedoradze, Minister of Culture of the Autonomous Republic – Eliso Bolkvadze, Minister of Education and Sport – Maya Khajishvili, wife of the chairman of the Adjara government – Sophia Bakuridze, the representative of the executive government, artistic circles, and the artist’s works were in attendance.
Khasan Helimish (1907-1976), as a poet and self-taught painter, gained attention with his work – the first exhibition of his paintings was organized in Tbilisi in 1975. Lazi’s paintings are preserved in the Sarfi High School exhibition hall, as well as in various private collections. The exhibition will continue until July 24.
