The traditional folk festival “Shuamtoba” was celebrated in Shuakhevi municipality, on Chirukhi mountain. The public holiday was attended by members of the Supreme Council and the government of Adjara.
The local population and guests were congratulated on the holiday by the Chairman of the Government of Adjara, Zurab Pataradze, the Mayor of Shuakhevi Municipality, Omar Takidze, the majoritarian deputies of the Parliament of Georgia and the Supreme Council of Adjara – Anzor Bolkvadze and Fridon Putkaradze, as well as the Chairman of the Shuakhevi Municipality Sakrebulo, Iago Davitadze.
The chairman of the Adjara government has focused on the importance of centuries-old traditions in the mountains and passing them on to future generations. Zurab Pataradze also stressed the need to strengthen the highland Adjara and noted that for the development of the region, special attention will be paid to improving infrastructure and implementing new projects.
“Chirukhi and the mountain need reinforcement, and we pledge that maximum attention will be given to the highland Adjara, as well as all six municipalities.” “We see successful projects that will continue in the future and will be followed by the realization of new initiatives,” said the chairman of the Adjara government.
According to him, the government’s priority is to create decent living conditions for every person in the mountains, support young people, and further strengthen the region.
Today, the Chairman of the Adjara Government also inspected the zipline infrastructure on Chirukhi Mountain, which helps to further showcase the tourist potential of Chirukhi Mountain and create new opportunities for visitors.
A wide range of cultural, sports and entertainment activities were held during the Midwinter Festival: children’s and sports areas, food zones, exhibitions and sales of handmade items, special installations, photo zones, summer attractions and festive decorations.
The event continued with a concert program, in which local folklore ensembles, along with invited bands and performers, participated. In parallel with the concert part, sports competitions were held in arm wrestling, Georgian wrestling and tug-of-war. The winners were awarded special prizes and certificates.
Representatives of the legislative and executive authorities, clergy, heads of regional higher education institutions, and representatives of the administration attended the Shuamtoba in Chirukh.
