Chairman of the Adjara Government Zurab Pataradze honored the memory of those who died in the 2008 Russia-Georgia war and decorated the heroes’ memorials in Batumi and Kobuleti municipalities and the war heroes’ graves in Kobuleti with flowers.
Zurab Pataradze noted that the war of August 2008 was the worst tragedy for Georgia, and the dedication of the fallen heroes remains a symbol of the country’s struggle for independence and freedom.
“It’s a very difficult day for each of us and for the whole of Georgia. 18 years have passed since August 8, 2008, but the great pain is not slowing down. Today, we once again honor our heroes, the people who gave the most precious lives for our country’s independence.
More than 400 people died in this great tragedy, including 21 heroes from our region, Adjara. We salute their memory and their families. I would like to point out that the pragmatic, correct, and consistent politics of our country is the result of our security and success. “In addition, the main task of our country remains deoccupation only in a peaceful way, which was also the dream of our heroes, those heroes who sacrificed themselves for our country,” said Zurab Pataradze.
The head of government decorated the graves of war heroes with flowers in Kobuleti municipality. Zurab Pataradze thanked the families of the fallen heroes for their affirmation and noted that properly valuing the memory of the heroes and supporting their families remains the responsibility and obligation of the government.
The memory of the heroes of the war of August 2008 was honored by the Georgian Parliament, the High Council of Adjara, the representatives of legislative and executive structures, the mayors of Batumi and Kobuleti municipalities, and members of the local government.
