The Minister of Health and Social Protection of Adjara, Nino Nizharadze, First Deputy Minister, Mari Zanakidze, and Head of Adjara Public Health Center, Rusudan Shavishvili, attended the XXV Medical Conference on the topic: “Basics of Improving Neonatological Care: Newborn Screening and Women’s Milk Bank”.

Ministry of Health & Social Affairs of Ajara shared the glimpses of the Medical Conference on its official Facebook Page on June 28, 2026, Sunday. The Adjara Health Ministry also shared a small note about the event along with its glimpses.
Nino Nizharadze said, “Thanks to the Association of Neonatologists for organizing a very interesting conference every year. Please note that the priority for the Ministry of Health of Adjara is to implement modern maternal and child health services. Therefore, in the coming days, under the auspices of the Public Health Center, we will begin the implementation of the “Provision of High-risk Women’s Milk Bank Program”.
It is worth noting that the first bank of women’s milk in Georgia. Yashvili’s Batumi Maternity and Children Central Hospital will be operated, which is an important news in the direction of the development of perinatal and neonatal services of the country.
“We also started 2023 as a pilot to conduct early detection of co-operative metabolic disorders, screening studies for high-risk and endangered group newborns on 47 metabolic diseases. Screening of 2,300 children is planned within the program this year,” Minister

Several fundamental medical issues were discussed at the Conference of Neonatologists, including: breast milk and a donor female milk bank, the importance of natural nutrition in underweight infants, the importance of metabolic screening in neonatal, spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) screening, the modern therapeutic era of disease management, and more.
