The Chairman of the Adjara Government, Zurab Pataradze, honored the memory of the Georgian soldiers who died heroically in Shindisi during the war in August 2008.
The Government of Adjara shared the glimpses of the gathering on its official Facebook page on August 11, 2026, Tuesday. A small note about the event was also shared along with its glimpses.
Along with the Chairman of the Adjara Government, the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Region, Tsotne Ananidze, and the Mayor of Batumi, Giorgi Tsintsadze, were also present there. They decorated the memorial with flowers in the Square named after the Heroes of Shindisi.
The Prime Minister noted that the sacrifice of Shindisi heroes remains a symbol of love for the homeland, struggle for the unity of the country and patriotic spirit.
“Every year we remember the heroes of Shindisi, people who sacrificed themselves for the unity and sovereignty of our country. On the one hand, today is a tragic and very difficult day, but on the other hand, our hearts are filled with pride and dignity. A new generation is growing up on the example of their sacrifice, and this is a clear example of how to love one’s homeland and how to serve one’s country. I would like to thank their families and pay tribute to the memory of our heroes,” said Zurab Pataradze.
The heads of the Ajara Government and Supreme Council, Batumi City Hall and Sakrebulo, as well as representatives of the Ajara Department of the State Service for Veterans Affairs and the Georgian Maritime Transport Agency paid tribute to the memory of the fallen heroes.
The battle near the village of Shindisi on August 11, 2008, is one of the most severe episodes of the Russian-Georgian war, in which 17 Georgian Armed Forces soldiers, including two fighters from Adjara, were killed.
