The pupils participating in “Agro School” visited the Scientific Research Center of Agriculture. The Environmental Information and Education Center organized the event. The goal of the educational visit was to introduce young people to the priority areas of agrarian science, research, and agriculture.
During the visit, the students visited the research bases of
Jighaura and Tsilkani, where the work process and ongoing projects were presented directly by the researchers of the center.
On the basis of multi-year cultural research in Jighaura, guests learned about vineyard-winery, protection of genetic resources of grapes, and agro-diversity. Students visited the museum space of grapes and wine, the ampelographic collection, and received exhaustive information about the diversity of Georgian and foreign grapes. In addition, young people were introduced to the collections of Khekhilovani and agro-forest cultures and the importance of conservation of rare species.
Based on the research of
tsilkani, the pupils learned about the work of soil fertility research and plant tissue culture (In Vitro) laboratories. In the Soil Laboratory, young people learned about modern research methodology, soil diagnosis, and proper management. In the In Vitro laboratory, guests learned about the innovative technology of non-virus plant reproduction and participated in the practical process.
The Center actively supports educational initiatives like this, which encourage young people’s interest in the agricultural sector and attract new staff in the field.
The program
“Agro School” will be implemented from 2022. The main aim of the program was to promote vocational education and agrarian professions among IX-XII class students, as well as to introduce them to the required areas in the labour market.
