Otar Shamugia attends Economic Forum

Otar Shamugia, The Georgian Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture, attended the Economic Forum. He spoke about the agriculture schemes and policies of Georgia to make the agriculture sector more productive and prosperous.

Tbilisi: Otar Shamugia, The Georgian Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture, attended the Economic Forum. He spoke about the agriculture schemes and policies of Georgia to make the agriculture sector more productive and prosperous.

Many representatives of regional and international organisations also attended the Forum to share their views regarding the achievements and challenges the agriculture sector is currently facing at the global level.

These dignitaries included Nodar Kereselidze, the project manager of the United Nations Development Program, the General Director of the Bank Of Georgia, Archil Gachehiladze, many representatives of the state agencies, business sectors, field associations, etc. 

All these representatives of the different organisations met under the framework of this economic Forum. This discussion of the economic Forum was moderated by Giorgi Abashivili. He is the founder and leader of “Business Insider Georgia”.

The agriculture minister of Georgia, during his address, said that the “Georgian government will continue to support the agriculture development to make the agriculture sector more productive. Moreover, this support to agricultural products will make the agriproducts of Georgia more competitive in the European Market, which is very important as the country has been granted the candidate status of European Union”.

Otar Shamugia also said that it is very important for us that the Ministry of Agriculture is implementing the Fifteen program to support all walks of the value chain of agroducts. We are collaborating with the different stakeholders, including farmer associations and field representatives of the agriculture ministry, to discuss the basis and existing needs of the agri sectors. 

Minister said that we will always support the technology implementation in the agriculture sector so that the agriculture sector can grow in the coming years. 

It is opined by all key speakers of the Forum that the agriculture sector of every country needs special attention. Some also expressed concern that under the name of Industrialisation, many countries are ignoring the challenges and problems which are hindering the progress of the sector.

Notably, even in the present scenario of industrialisation, the agriculture sector is still the backbone of many underdeveloped countries. 

Georgian agriculture ministry has launched many initiatives to help the farmers so that they can work for the progress of the country.
