Nino Tandilashvili attends a Summary meeting On the National Forest Program

Tbilisi: Recently, Under the framework of the National Forest Program Process (ESP), the year’s summary working meeting was held. This meeting was also attended by Nino Tandilashvili, First Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture.

It is to be specifically mentioned that at this significant meeting, the partners supporting the development of the Georgian forest sector presented the activities and future plans that have will be implemented in 2024. The parties further discussed criteria and indicators for the operational level of sustainable forest management developed by the National Forest Agency of Georgia.

Speaking on the occasion, Nino Tandilashvili noted, “In the framework of the National Forest Program process, we have discussed the results of the forest sector reform and future plans in this direction. Forestry-related reform has moved from the phase of development of a regulatory framework to its implementation phase in the country, implementation work now also requires the participation of all the stakeholders. Therefore, it is important that representatives from public agencies, non-governmental and donor organizations, as well as community-based organisations, attend today’s meeting and also share their suggestions with officials. I would like to thank our fellow countries across the globe who actively help us to build sustainable forest management and develop the forest sector”.

At the same meeting, the forest management bodies presented a report on forest-agricultural activities implemented in 2023 on forest inventory, forest restoration and forest use issues, including the issue of forest Fires. Meeting participants also learned about the Ministry’s research on Chali forests; partner organisations discussed projects implemented, ongoing and planned.

It is worth mentioning that the meeting was held with the technical support of the Caucasus Network of Environmental Organizations (CENN) and the Austrian Development Agency (ADA).

Notably, the Ministry has been working to make the forestation drive successful in every region of the country. Moreover, to tackle the threat of global warming and Climate change, many areas of the country have been declared as protecteda areas.

Tree plantain drives have been frequently launched by the ministry throughout the years. As per the information provided by Minister More, such drive will be held in the future to make the Concept of Sustainable more Realistic for the Country.
