Georgia: Center for Environmental Information and Education sign MoU With universities

Under the framework of the “Agro Scholarships” program, the Center for Environmental Information and Education of the Republic of Georgia has signed a memorandum of Understanding(MoU) with universities and professional educational institutions of the country. The memorandum was signed by Tamar Aladashvili, Director of the Center for Environmental Information and Education and Heads of Educational Institutions.

It is to be specifically mentioned that this MoU was signed with the aim to enhance the cooperation with various educational institutions for better and successful implementation of a program called “Agrostipendies”.The “Agro Scholarships” program aims to popularise the agrarian fields and encourage outstanding students with scholarships and internships in relevant institutions to study the agriculture sector of the country.

This important event was organized by Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture Solomon Pavliashvili and was attended by Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Nodar Papukashvili, Head of Economic Development of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Giorgi Nanobashvili, Officer of the Inclusive Economic Development Program of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) I Lela Mamrikishvili and Tamar General Director of Professional Skills Agency Kitiashvili was present.

Environmental Information and Education Center of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) are actively cooperating under “Modernization of the Vocational Education System in Georgia’s Agriculture VET (Phase3)” project. The main objective of the project is to present successful students with agro-scholarships from universities and vocational educational institutions holding undergraduate and master’s degrees.

At the signing ceremony of the MoU(Memorandum of Understanding), large representatives of the Georgian government, as well as a representative of the Universities and private insertions, were also present.

At the same time, there was a detailed meeting among the attendees of the event. It was stressed that the Agriculture sector is the backbone of the economy of any country. It was highlighted that young minds must be encouraged and motivated to take study of agriculture on a priority basis.

Key speakers of the event also Encouraged the government representative to make policies that can boost the interest of the students in the agricultural sector of the country.

There was also a consensus among all that scholarships are essential to attract the students of colleges and universities toward the agriculture sector of Georgia.

After the signing ceremony, the government representative said that this was a historic moment and would bring fruitful results in the future for the agriculture sector of the country.
