The World Bank experts have positively evaluated the land reforms being executed in Georgia. These remarks came from a recently held meeting of world bank experts.
The meeting participants discussed many issues, including the rules of irrigation water supply approved by the National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission of Georgia. At the same time, their conversation touched on the methodology of tariff implementation, which provides the reflection of operational costs in the tariff.
During the meeting, the chief specialist of water resources management at the World Bank and the head of the Georgia Sustainable Agriculture, Irrigation and Land Project (GREIL) Task force expressed their views, specifically stating that “We had an in-depth discussion with the representatives of the Georgian Melioration on the progress of the important and large-scale reform.”
He further added “There are many reforms that will be implemented in the direction of “The Melioration of Georgia.” These will also include reforms that will be implemented in all directions in the irrigation sector. We discussed in detail the form of the irrigation tariff methodology with the representatives of different departments of reclamation of Georgia, who work directly on the tariff methodology.”
He further added, “As a representative of the World Bank, I am aware of Georgia’s important steps to implement changes, improve the sector’s efficiency, and improve water supply services for farmers. We are ready and willing to support Georgia as much as possible in all these steps.”
At the meeting, the World Bank experts proposed several mechanisms to ensure the balancing of the country’s income with the operational expenses. As Mameli Kobalia, head of the Department of Water Resources Management, Energy and Relations with SEMEC, noted, consultations with World Bank provide the important support for the country in overcoming the challenges within the framework of the new regulation.
The Georgian government, under the leadership of the PM, had made many significant developments to promote the Georgian agriculture sector as well.
