Georgia: Training held for employees of Agriculture cooperatives in Tbilisi

A significant meeting with the support of the Environmental Information and Education Center and the cooperation of the Rural Development Agency was held . In meeting the representatives of the agricultural cooperatives received training. The training session covered many aspects of the agricultural sector.

It is to be specifically mentioned that the participants received information on such issues as the cooperative organizational form and principles, a Review of the Law on Agricultural Cooperatives and the Charter of the Cooperative, governance of the cooperative, cooperative bond fund, mandatory bond and additional contributions, and distribution of profits among members under the training framework.

At the same time representatives of agriculture cooperatives from all over the country took part in the trainings, which were held in the Imereti and Samtskhe-Javakheti regions and in the capital. It is worth noting that the training was conducted by Konstantine Khutsaidze head of the cooperatives development department of the Rural Development Agency.

Moreover the trainings were held within the framework of the project “Modernization of the Vocational Education System in Georgian Agriculture VET (Phase 3)” which is implemented with the funding of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and ensures the introduction of effective mechanisms for the transfer of information and knowledge.

The key speakers and agriculture experts on this occasion shared their views on the problems being faced by the agricultural sector and how corporates can play a crucial role in overcoming these challenges in the future as well. It is to be added that the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment Protection has long been making many efforts to develop the agricultural sector with the cooperation of regional and international stakeholders. The experts also strongly advised the adoption of sustainable agriculture practices so that the increasing threat of climate change can be tackled immediately.

It is also to be noted that with the advancement of technology, the ministry has been making many efforts to make the agriculture sector more profitable as well.
