As per the Teimuraz Lezhava, the Georgian Ambassador to Japan all citizens of Georgia in Japan are safe as there was an earthquake in Japan recently. He also advised all the citizens that in case of any emergency, Georgian citizens must contact the Georgian embassy in Japan for any assistance.
He explained these details on Wednesday and said no Georgian citizens had been injured in the deadly earthquake that hit Japan on the first day of the New Year and extended his condolences to the Japanese people who have suffered through the deadly disaster.
At the same time, the ambassador of Georgia also urged Georgian nationals to use the Embassy hotline if they needed assistance in the aftermath of the quake.
It is to be specifially mentioned that as per the information shared by the Georgian Ambassador, “there are no Georgians living in the region which was hit by the earthquake but is quite a wide region, and I would not rule out that there might have been Georgians travelling there especially the Ishikawa region on the west coast of the main Honshu island that was hit the hardest”.
The diplomat also noted “We have been able to verify the whole situation with Georgian citizens through all our available channels and to our knowledge no Georgian is there yet that is affected by the recent earthquake. However we still have opened a hotline, and any citizen will be able to contact us regarding any need at any time of the day in all seven days of week”.
While expressing his concern over the loss of life and property in Japan, Ambassador Lezhava added, “I have already expressed my deep condolences to the Japanese Government and to the people of Japan. It is a very sad fact that this tragedy happened in Japan and caused the loss of property and lives.
It is worth mentioning that the Georgian Ambassador was travelling with his family by train at the time when the earthquake hit, which further caused rail operations to be suspended. The passengers had to spend the night in a station”.
As per the latest information death toll from the 7.6 magnitude earthquake that struck Japan on the first day of the new year rose to 64 people on Wednesday.
Back to back earthquakes shook the western part of Japan and caused huge losses. Japan fall in the category of risk zone, means it is prone to earthquakes and tsunamis.
