The Batumi city of Georgia has hosted a conference on Roman history and archaeology. The conference named “Lime Congress 2024” is being held first time in Batumi Georgia. The conference will go on until 14 September.
The congress’s main theme is the history of the Roman Empire’s borders and various topics related to economic relations, trade, culture, political and social issues and new archaeological excavations.
The forum opened yesterday and will continue until September 14. In addition to the sessions, various excursions are planned to visit the region’s interesting places. About 350 delegates from 42 countries are participating in the Batumi conference.
Archil Chikovani, speaking about the conference said “I am glad that our city hosts such an important event as the Lime Congress. It is worth noting that Batumi has won the Tourism Oscar many times. Last year we were awarded as the world’s four-season tourist destination. Our city is also the host of several large-scale international and regional forums and significantly the 26th Lima Congress is being held here this year.”
Throughout today’s congress and the following days, various seminars related to Roman history and archeology as well as cultural events will be held within the forum. The delegates will visit several sights of the city and the Adjara region, including important monuments of Roman fortification such as Gonio Castle where the Roman festival is held on September 12.
The days of the forum are packed with diverse activities, promising an engaging and fruitful experience for the participants. The event will also contribute to the deepening of relations between the scientific institutions of the represented countries for sharing of knowledge and experience.
Speaking on the occasion Archil Chekhovian said ,I would like to thank the Executive Committee of Lime Congress, the University of Warsaw, the Government of Adjara, the Ministry of Education, the Agency for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Adjara and all involved persons whose support and activities enabled Batumi to be chosen to host the Congress.”
