Borjomi, Georgia: The Borjomi Municipality announced that it will implement 11 infrastructure projects in 2024 to improve the region’s living conditions and economic development.
The European Union and the United Nations Development Programme funded the projects as part of the “Improving Rural Development in Georgia” initiative.
The projects include rehabilitating roads, bridges, fences, streams, buildings, and public spaces in various villages and towns of the municipality. Some of the highlights are:
- The rehabilitation of the internal road in Kvibisi village, which will improve the accessibility and mobility of the residents and visitors;
- The rehabilitation of the damaged section of the road in the village of Petara Mitarbi will enhance the tourism potential of the area and attract more visitors to the nearby ski resort;
- The rehabilitation of the fences adjacent to the central road on Borjomi Municipality Daba in Akhaldaba, which will increase the safety and security of pedestrians and drivers;
- The rehabilitation of the streams in Andesiti village will prevent flooding and erosion and protect the environment and agriculture;
- The rehabilitation of the building and the area located on the bus base territory of Meskheti Street N146 A and 146 B in Borjomi will create a modern and comfortable public transport hub for the city;
- The rehabilitation of the roof and facade of a multi-room residential building located at Rustaveli Street N 91 in Borjomi, which will improve the energy efficiency and aesthetic appearance of the building;
- The rehabilitation of the internal road near Borjomi Street in Akhaldaba of Borjomi Municipality, which will facilitate the traffic flow and reduce congestion;
- The rehabilitation of the road from village Moliti to village Tabatskura of Borjomi municipality (one section), which will connect the two villages and improve their socio-economic situation;
- The arrangement of the Gele channel in Borjomi e. Tropicana, which will regulate the water supply and irrigation system for the local farmers;
- The rehabilitation of the central football field in Borjomi, which will provide a high-quality sports facility for the youth and the community;
Rehabilitating the park in Daba Tsagveri of Borjomi Municipality will restore the area’s natural beauty and recreational value.
The Borjomi Municipality is one of the eight Georgia municipalities participating in the “Improving Rural Development in Georgia” project, which aims to promote rural development policies and practices, support local governance and civic engagement, and foster inclusive and sustainable growth. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) implements the project and is financed by the European Union (EU).
The Borjomi Municipality is located in the south of Georgia, within the Meskheti and Trialeti mountain ranges of the Lesser Caucasus Mountains. It covers an area of approximately 1,189 km and has a population of about 25,000. The municipality is famous for its mineral water, natural springs, and historical and cultural heritage.
