Borjomi: The Borjomi city hall administration have held a meeting on violence against women. The meeting was part of an ongoing 16-days campaign.
The Borjomi city hall on the official Facebook page stated, “As part of the 16-day campaign against violence against women organized by the Borjomi Municipality Gender Equality Council, an information meeting was held with the principals of public schools and day-care heads of Borjomi Municipality.”
It further stated this important information meeting was held under the theme “Together for women and girls’ rights. The domestic violence especially violence is still a biggest problem of Georgia.
Few months ago a government agency have released a data which showed women are still main victim of domestic violence incidents. It is to be added that there are many civil society organisations along with non-Government organisation who are working for overall welfare of women.
However, despite initiative from Government and non-government organisation the crime against women is still a biggest problem.The 16-days campaign will have number of events ranging from seminars, group discussions to panel discussion of experts as well.
In this meeting which was organised by the Municipality vast number of topics were discussed by attendees. The attendee of this meeting includes the representative from various organisation also.
The representative from Non-government organisation which are working specifically for the welfare of the women were also present during this meeting as well besides principals.
Some key speaker of organisation has raised concern that there is need to review existing laws to prevent incident of domestic violence. Moreover, they also demanded to bring more law in this direction so that rights of women can be secured.
Similarly, some member of women organisations who were present in meeting said that, there is urgent need to make step for fast judicial system so that the accused to crime against women can be brought to justice as soon as possible also.
