Tbilisi: The Captain of the Georgian National Basketball Team, Tornike Shenegelia, would be available with team to attend their next game against Italy in Brescia. The Georgian Basketball Federation has provided this update on Tornike’s condition after he suffered an injury in the match against the Netherlands.
Tornike had been transferred to the hospital soon after being injured in the World Cup 2023 qualifiers match against the Netherlands. Georgia registered a victory against the Netherlands. Thadd Mcfadden, the one underperformer in the past few games, turned out to be the match saviour for the Georgian team by scoring quick eight runs within five minutes.
Shengelia jumped in an attempt to catch the ball during the match, and had fallen on his shoulder. Thus, suffered a high-grade dislocation of the humerus and ligament damage in his left shoulder. Â
The Captain underwent various preliminary examinations. The reports have suggested that he did not require any emergency operation on the shoulder. Moreover, the decision regarding the type of therapy, whether a conservative therapy or surgery , will be made in a few upcoming days.
Shenegelia will be arriving from Bologna to Brescia on the game day and will return back after the game.
Georgia is scheduled to play against Italy on Saturday, August 27.
