Tbilisi: A new child rights protection center was opened at Tbilisi State University. The center aims to create awareness about children’s rights across the country.
The Tbilisi State University has taken to its official Facebook page and stated, “A child rights protection center was opened at Tbilisi State University, the aim of which is to create a knowledge hub promoting the protection of children’s rights.”
The center will contribute to the creation, dissemination and popularization of knowledge about the child’s rights as well as the strengthening of academic staff and professionals for the effective implementation of the principles of the rights of the child in Georgia.
The deputy Rector of Tbilisi State University Nino Gvenetadze, the representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund in Georgia, Jesper Moler, representatives of governmental and non-governmental, local and international organizations working on children’s issues, and academic circles attended the center’s opening ceremony.
The center will work in a multidisciplinary format and will help strengthening cooperation between different structural units working to protect children’s rights. A significant number of people attended the opening ceremony and they also shared their experiences with the key dignitaries. The key speakers of the event underlined the importance of protecting children’s rights.
There was also a dedicated presentation on the theme of children’s rights. The UNICEF and University representative said that children are the foundation of any country and it is the responsibility of any country to protect their rights. UNICEF (United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund) is an International organization that has been working for the protection of children’s rights for a long time at the international level.
The organization is the frontrunner for protecting children’s rights in conflict zones. The speaker also expressed concern over the violation of children’s rights in many conflict areas worldwide. There are many non-government organizations working for the protection of children’s rights in Georgia. Many organizations with a specific aim of protecting children’s rights are also working in the country.
