The Environmental Information and Education Centre of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture has organized a climate ambassador program. The main objective of the camp program  is to give young people an opportunity to learn about environmental issues.
It is to be added that the camp was   opened by the Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture, Solomon Pavliashvili, and the Climate Program Manager of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Tornike Fullarian.
According to a representative of the Ministry of the Environment, this is the best way forward for the children to get the latest and updated information on environmental issues.
At the green camp, the students will learn about topics such as biodiversity, sustainable management of forest resources and practical work, hydrological and geological hazards, and Disaster risk reduction.
They will also learn about the basic concepts and terms, as well as the safety rules during natural disasters, and what measures can be taken to mitigate the negative effects of natural disasters. Moreover, they have the opportunity to learn about threat and vulnerability assessment and risk determination.
There was a competition to select the candidates  and based on the competition  more than 50 young people representing different regions of Georgia were selected to participate in the Green Camp for the present year 2024.
They also included students from the targeted community for specialized programs like “Reducing the Risk of Disasters Caused by Climate Change in Georgia.”The Center for Environmental Information and Education is implementing the Green Camp “Climate Ambassadors” under the program “Reducing the Risk of Disasters Caused by Climate Change in Georgia.”
It is also worth mentioning that the work is being financed by the Government of Georgia  the Green Climate Fund (GCF), and the governments of Sweden and Switzerland. The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) ensures the program’s implementation. The problems of climate change and global warming are rising day by day  and this has caused a serious threat to the environment across the globe. Georgia is also making many efforts to protect the Georgian flora and fauna.
