Georgia: The National Agency for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Georgia continued to support the construction work to remove damage caused by natural disasters in the Alaverdi monastery complex.
At this stage, specialists are working on the cross-construction project. In addition, research and design continue in various directions to cover the dome.
The damaged chromite tire on the roof of the antiquities store in the Alaverdi monastery complex has been replaced. The installation of the Kramite tyre on the Episcopal House and the Western Minashen (Stoa) of the Cathedral was also completed. A copper beam was set up on the dome of Karibche-Samreklo, and on September 10, a newly carved cross was erected on it.
The cross was produced under the direct leadership of the National Agency for Protection of Cultural Heritage of Georgia, and project works led this process.
According to the project, a mock-up was made, based on which a mould was made, and a brass cross was poured into the mould. The cross-casting was carried out under the supervision of architect-restorers. A cross was made with a similar plan, which will be erected on the dome of Alaverdi Cathedral.
The public will be informed that the vital element that happened on June 25 damaged the tin cover of the dome of Alaverdi, in particular, the cover was covered by the church dome. Also, in various places in the northern lap, lorphin stones were broken, in other places, the cramite roof was damaged, the western side of the cathedral and the dome were broken, the cramit roofs of the bell tower and the episcopal house were damaged, as well as the balcony of the palace collapsed, a cross fell from the dome of the cathedral, and the infrastructure was damaged in the surrounding area.
As it is known, on June 26, Georgian Minister of Culture and Sports Tea Tsulukiani arrived to Alaverdi together with Nikoloz Aznaurashvili, General Director of the National Agency for Protection of Cultural Heritage of Georgia and got acquainted with the situation caused by the natural disaster.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze got acquainted with the situation in the Alaverdi monastery complex, damaged by the earthquake on July 7, 2024.
Nikoloz Aznaurashvili, Director General of the National Agency for Protection of Cultural Heritage of Georgia, and Metropolitan David of Abba Alaverde provided detailed information about the situation created to the Prime Minister.
