Tbilisi: The Georgian Prosecutor’s office has charged one person for the offence of domestic violence. The accused is an employee of Tkibuli Municiplaiy Hall.

The prosecutor’s office is very strict against the offence of domestic violence. It has also launched a drive against domestic violence to eliminate this grave social evil.

It is to be specifically mentioned that in this regard an investigation was carried out by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. During the preliminary inquiry it was found that on January 15 in the evening, the accused, under the influence of alcohol, physically abused his wife in the presence of underage children on the basis of gender indifference.

He also tries to kill his wife in front of his children, who are very small and underage. Moreover, the law enforcement agency, after the initial inquiry arrested the accused on the same day.

The accused has been charged with Article 126 Prima Article 2 “b” of the Criminal Code of Georgia. Article 126 Prima article 2”b” of the code covers the offence of violence by one member of the family against another member of the family on the basis of gender indifference, causing physical pain in the presence of a minor.

 

Meanwhile the Prosecutor’s Office has appealed to the court of law to use imprisonment as a measure of restraint within the time limit set by law.

It is worth mentioning that gender-based violence is still the biggest problem in the country. Despite the awareness drive and large-scale initiative every year a large number of such cases are reported throughout the country.

The prosecution office was also a part of the sixteen-day campaign against domestic violence. This was launched to prevent the evil of gender-based domestic violence. The data also showed that domestic violence needs special attention to reduce the number of incidents.
