Zestafoni: Mayor and others remember martyrs of independence

The Mayor of Zestafoni Vasil Gvelesiani along with other municipality representatives attended the remembering event held for the independence of Martyars of Russian occupation.

It is to be specifically mentioned that Junkers who died heroically in the fight for Georgia’s independence and sacrificed their lives were honored in Zestafoni Municipality of Georgia. A significant number of citizens were present on the occasion as well to pay their respect and homage to martyrs.

Notably in Daba Shorapani in February 1921 the Memorial Day of the Junckers who were killed in the battle against the Russian army in Kojor-Tabakhmela was celebrated in the presence of many participants. This memorial has been established in memory of those people who were shot dead during the national riots located in Daba Shorapani.

The memorial has been crowned by local government officials and other representatives as well. The event was attended by Zestafoni Mayor, Vasil Gvelesiani, Deputy Malkhaz Shergelashvili, City Hall and City Council representatives. The clergyman of the Diocese of Margveti paid a paraklis to commemorate the heroes who died in the fight for the unity of Georgia.

“We gathered to honor the memory of those people who sacrificed themselves for a better future for Georgia. Their heroism is an example for everyone and their names will never be forgotten”, mayor Vasil Gvelesiani added.

It is worth mentioning that every year 25th February is remembered as the day of Russian occupation in Georgia. On this day the Russian occupational forces occupied the Georgian territory by throwing the general and people-elected government by the people of the country as well.

The Prime Minister and President of Georgia also advised the people of the country to stay united in the fight against the anti-national elements and external elements in the future.

Meanwhile the national flag was lowered in all the Government buildings of the country. The flag of the Georgian national parliament was also flown at half mast to remember the Martyars of independence.
