Telavi, Georgia: The SP Anzor Erkomaishvili State Folklore Center Telavi Salotbaro School was given a furnished work space in Vazha-Pshavela Telavi State Professional Dramatic Theater.

New working environment Georgian Minister of Culture and Sports Thea Tsulukiani visited the artistic director of Telavi State Professional Dramatic Theater Paata Guliashvili, Director of the State Folklore Center named after Anzor Erkomaishvili Giorgi Donadze, and Deputy Director Giorgi Gabunia.

The minister thanked the artistic director of the Telavi State Theater and his staff for allocating workspace for the Salotbaro School.

Thea Tsulukiani met teachers and students, listened to the best examples of young people’s multivocal performance, congratulated them on their new home, and wished them successful and productive creative activities in this new environment.

At the end of the meeting, Thea Tsulukiani thanked the lootbars – Gocha and Beka Bidzinashvili, representatives of Telavi lootbar school, for their hard work on promoting and developing Georgian multivocalism.

It is emphasized that in 2023 Thea Tsulukiani visited active salotbar schools in Kakheti. Among them, she visited Telavi Salotbar School, heard information about the needs of the school, and talked to the attending community about the plan to develop Salotbar Schools. The minister paid special attention to the issue of temporary school space and in this regard showed their full support.

On the initiative of Anzor Erkomaishvili State Folklore Center and with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, Salotbar School was opened in Telavi in 2017. Georgian folk songs and traditional chants are taught to children by famous Kakhuri songs – brothers Gocha and Beka Bidzinashvili.

Currently, 10 students are enrolled in the school.

It is important that in January 2024, the Minister of Culture Thea Tsulukiani, and the head of the Folklore Center Giorgi Donadze held a summary meeting with the teachers of Salotbar schools operating in Georgia at the State Folklore Center.

The minister discussed plans for schools and teachers and heard about their needs with 65 teachers of public schools in Georgia – including public schools and regents – Discussed new projects and events opportunities. Spoke on opportunities to improve the infrastructure of Salotbaro schools and the importance of establishing the same method and structure of teaching across all, as well as generating more relationships between Salotbaro Schools, among other important issues.

Notably with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Georgia, under the auspices of the Anzor Erkomaishvili State Folklore Center in Georgia, 32 salotbar schools are functioning in which students can learn Georgian multivocal songs and playing instruments for free. Georgian scholar, Anzor Erkomaishvili, laid the foundation for the creation of salotbaro schools.

It should be noted that the promotion of the development of Georgian folklore is one of the priorities for the Ministry of Culture.

Georgian Minister of Culture Thea Tsulukiani visited the schools of Mestia, Lentekhi, Ambrolauri, Oni, Zestafoni, Khoni, Borjomi, Akhaltsikhe, Dusheti, Samtredia, Kaspi, Kareli, Gori, Kvarli, Telavi, Ozurgeti, Baghdati, Vani, Abashi, Senaki, Zugdidi and Tsalenjikhi, as a result, the final meeting was decided in Tbilisi.
