Georgian PM condemns attack on Robert Fico

Irakli Kobakhidze the Prime Minister of the Republic of Georgia strongly condemned the attack on his counterpart from Slovakia, Robert Fico. Fico received multiple bullet injuries during a brutal attack by the armed assailant.

The PM took to his social media handle to wishes the fast recovery of his counterpart from Slovakia. Georgian PM in a tweet stated “We strongly condemn the brutal and reckless attack on H.E. Robert Fico, Prime Minister of Slovakia. Our thoughts are with him and the people of Slovakia during this challenging time.”  The Slovak PM received multiple head and chest injuries from bullets. His condition is still in danger according to doctors of the hospital he admitted.

 

He was attacked on Wednesday morning in the central town of Handlova.  The accused has been detained by the law enforcement authorities. The 71-year-old accused  Slovak poet Juraj Cintula believed to be a critic of the FICO’s policies.  Slovak PM  assumed power last October and amended the foreign policy with a liberal approach towards Russia.

 

In the 2018  Fico was forced to resign from the post after the exposure of high-level corruption. The opposition parties accused him of his nonaction against corruption.   The Georgian PM  added that this is a cowardly act. The criticism of the leader must not result in a physical attack. He  urged the Slovak authorities to take strict action against the culprits.

Meanwhile, many other national and international leaders   condemned this brutal attack. The deputy Prime Minister of Slovakia who  also has an environment portfolio while expressing his deep concern said “I was very shocked, fortunately as far as I know the operation went well. And I guess in the end he will survive. Moreover, he is not in a life-threatening condition anymore.

 

The accused reportedly admitted the guilt and said that he was not happy with the media policies of the current PM, Moreover   these policies have the potential to undermine the independent media voices as well.
