100 years have passed since the birth of Georgian Lotbari, Polikarpe Khubulava

While still at school, Polikarpe Khubulava formed a small ensemble with several peers. This was the first team under his leadership. After finishing school, she was invited to the army and served in the Georgian Division of Batumi. She sang in the ensemble of Shermadin Chkuaseli. After that, he fell in love with Gurian songs especially.

The singer often visited Artem and Ananya Erkomaishvili in Makvaneti with the ensemble members and learned their skills. He knew Benia Mikadze, an excellent connoisseur of Imerian songs and loot bars; he sang with Akaki Kharebava and Joseph Gunava.

In 1949, Polikarpe Khubulava returned from Batumi and started working as the manager of the village Kulishkari club. In 1954, he moved to the newly opened Jikhashkari club. Parallelly, he led the teams of Chkhorotsku, Tsalenjikhi, and Gali.

Policarpe Khubulava’s achievement is important in relation to the ensemble “Odoia” at the Zugdidi House of Culture. The ensemble will have several concert tours abroad, particularly in Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Poland, and France.

Anzor Erkomaishvili dedicated an emergency program to his work. From 1979 to 1987, Polycarpe Khubulava appeared several times on folklore evenings organized by Vakhushti Kotetishvili. In 1986, the program “Self-Action of One Village—Village Jikhashkari” was dedicated to Policarpe Khubulava’s team and village choreographic ensemble of the town. The Self-Action of One Village—Village Jikhhashkari” was prepared by the editorial office of folk works of the First Channel of Georgia.

In 2001, in France, he held masterclasses of Georgian folk songs with the ensemble “Maran.” In 2003, three compact disc albums, “Let’s Learn Georgian Folk Songs,” performed by the ensemble “Odoia.” Also, with the ensemble’s participation, 2005 a four-disc Sanoto collection was published; in it, 24 pearls of Megrelian singing folklore are represented.

Polikarpe Khubulava, with Lia Salakaya (Director of Sioni Parish School), led the young Lotbarta school within the framework of the Georgian Patriarchate Choir Center and International Center for Georgian Folk Song with the support of UNESCO.

Polikarpe Khubulava became a cavalier of the Order of Honor, the Order of St. George, and the laureate of the Foundation “Georgian Choir”prizes.

In 2014, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and the State Folklore Center, the 90th anniversary of the singer and the singer of the Zugdidi Municipality Culture Center was held, and the star named after him was opened.

In 2015, the foundation “Georgian Song Moamagebi” published the monograph “Polykarpe Khubulava” from the series “Georgian Song Winners.” The edition includes a compact disc that records the songs and hymns performed by Polikarpe Khubulawa and his ensembles “Chelasa” and “Odoia.” The monograph was awarded a prize in the competition announced by the Ministry of Culture of Georgia as the best work of 2015 in the field of music science.
