Georgia: The Minister of Culture, Sports, and Youth of Georgia, Thea Tsulukiani, honored the memory of the famous painter Ilia Patashuri and personally expressed condolences to the deceased’s family.
Ilia Patashuri was a great artist who died on Wednesday, June 5, 2024. He will be buried on Saturday, June 8, in the village of Khevsha in Dusheti district.
The artist’s diverse work unites traditional, historical, and present scenes, landscapes, portraits, and still life. His works are done with intense color matching. Ilia belongs to Patashuri’s famous paintings: “Didgori,” “Begreba,” “Pomegranates,” “Krtsanisi,” and others.
He participated in many local and international exhibitions, and his canvases were represented in exhibitions in France, England, the USA, and Japan.
On the Ministry of Culture initiative, in 2021, a retrospective exhibition of the works of Georgian-honored painter “Pkhovi Zareba” was held at the Dimitri Shevardnadze National Gallery. One hundred twenty works (paintings and graphics) were presented in the gallery, and the exhibition lasted a month.
Ilia Patashuri’s life and work catalog was also prepared and published for the exhibition. At the end of the exhibition, the artist gave ten paintings made in different periods as a gift to the Shalva Amiranashvili Art Museum.
The Ministry of Culture and Sports of Georgia will once again honor Ilia Patashuri’s memory and service to Georgian culture and express condolences to his family, relatives, and colleagues.

Ilia Patashuri was a Georgian artist. His works resembled vivid, engaging, colorful, intense, and delicate emotions. Talking to Ilia felt like traveling around Georgia through his eyes, a journey that is filled with so much love and pure admiration for his country, the beauty of its nature, and its history, an admiration that is echoed in his paintings, a kaleidoscope of magnificent landscapes, battle scenes from Georgian history, and human portraits that haunted everyone long after the moment they saw them.
