Georgia: The city of Dusheti, the administrative centre of Dusheti Municipality in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region, is celebrating the New Year with a variety of events organized by the government administration.
The central square of the city is the main venue for the festivities, which started at 14:00 on December 23.
The program includes a marching orchestra, an exhibition sale of local entrepreneurs, a food space with mulled wine, hot dogs, popcorn, coffee, and tea, an animators’ children’s program, a children’s space with an elves workshop, a festive procession of fairy tale heroes, a children’s meeting with Santa Claus, a concert of local artists, a chemical show, an ensemble “Shadkatsa”, a group “Passengers”, a presenter Ana Kosadze, and a ceremonial fireworks.
The New Year events in Dusheti are part of a nationwide project initiated by the government of Georgia to create a festive mood and support the local tourism industry amid the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, 63 municipalities of the country, including Dusheti, were given New Year illuminations as a gift1.
Dusheti is a town with a rich history and culture, located on both banks of the small, mountainous Dushetis-Khevi River in the foothills of the Greater Caucasus range at an elevation of 900 m.
