Nino Tandilashvili meets Japan’s Ambassador to Georgia

Georgia: The First Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture Nino Tandilashvili met Japan’s Emergency and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Georgia Ishidzuka Hideki.

At the meeting, issues of deepening bilateral cooperation in the fight against climate change and implementation of the Joint Credit Mechanism (JCM) within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Georgia and Japan were discussed.

Nino Tandilashvili thanked the Japanese Ambassador for the support that the Japanese side is implementing in Georgia for environmental protection and agriculture development.

“Cooperation with Japan will help Georgia in the process of transitioning to a green economy, developing climate-friendly agriculture and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, which will contribute to the achievement of both countries’ national-level share (NDC).”Support from the Japanese side will be important for developing the effective implementation of the Joint Credit Mechanism (JCM), eco-friendly agriculture and alternative energy opportunities, and will help us take important steps towards fulfilling our commitments on the road to Eurointegration,” said Nino Tandilashvili.

Japan’s Emergency and Plenipotentiary Ambassador stressed the importance of Joint Credit Mechanism (JCM) for both sides and noted that Japan and Georgia have already taken important steps in this direction. According to Ishidzuka Hideki, Georgia has the potential to develop climate-friendly agriculture and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Japanese side is ready to cooperate with Georgia at both governmental and private sectors, in order to deepen relations and implement mutually beneficial projects.

At the meeting, it was noted that cooperation between the two countries in the field of both agriculture and environmental protection will continue actively. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture and the Embassy of Japan.

Nino Tandilashvili is the first Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia from April 2023. She was Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia from December 2017 to April 2023. 

She is in charge of key national environmental policy directions including climate change, ambient air protection, water resources management, environmental permits and licensing, as well as development of legal framework, international relations and European Integration, facilitation of environmental education, supporting public participation in decision-making and ensuring access to information.
