Georgia: Nino Thandilashvili meets coordinator of UNIDO

Nino Thandilashvili, The First Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia recently held a meeting with the coordinator of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) program. The minister discusses the progress of various programs being held with the assistance of UNIDO in Georgia as well.

It is to be specifically mentioned that on this occasion both the parties discussed the possible involvement of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture in the UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) program and the action plan for the implementation of the program in Georgia.

Speaking specifically during the meeting Nino Thandilashvili said “The Ministry has many years of fruitful cooperation with UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) in the field of environmental protection. It should be noted that the national program of the country includes issues of interest to us also, including the improvement and digitization of laboratory bases. In terms of laboratory capabilities we have a positive assessment from the European Commission. Food safety and security in the country are directly related to the strengthening of laboratory capabilities, and accordingly, the mentioned direction is a priority for us. It should be noted that the involvement of UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization)will also be interesting in the direction of involving young people in agriculture and creating a training center and retraining staff, in the part of introducing a unified systematized approach”.

It is to be noted that the UNIDO’s “Country Program” which will be implemented during the year of 2023-2027 includes three main directions – agribusiness development, access to markets and increasing opportunities for farmers, environmental protection, and effective use of natural resources.

As per the information provided by the official it was made clear that to determine the priority directions of the program a national coordination council will be created in which various state agencies will be united. Both sides also agreed to boost cooperation in other fields so that it could help the country in many ways as well.
