Giorgi Amilakhvari visits Armenia’s capital Yerevan

Georgia: The Georgian Minister of Education, Science and Youth Giorgi Amilakhvari is on a working visit to Armenia’s capital, Yerevan.

During the visit, Giorgi Amilakhvari held a working meeting with the Armenian Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Jhana Andreasen. She was appointed Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of the Republic of Armenia in 2022.

In the meeting, the sides discussed issues of expanding cooperation in education and science and mechanisms supporting the educational system. Participants of the meeting focused on the importance of Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s visit to Armenia in order to deepen the historic friendship between the two countries.

The meeting also touched upon the opening of the Georgian Center at the Yerevan State University, promoting teachers in the direction of qualification improvement and professional development, offering various exchange programs for students and students and organizing different types of youth joint events.

The Minister introduced the meeting participants and the steps taken to support Armenian-speaking students in Georgia. Specifically, according to Giorgi Amilakhvari, the funding of Armenian-speaking students enrolled in the Georgian language training program (1+4) from the 2024-2025 academic year has been doubled. Thus, 200 students, instead of 100, will receive education annually.

Giorgi Amilakhvari discussed issues of deepening cooperation in higher education and science with his Armenian colleague. This means strengthening the teaching of Georgian and Armenian language and literature in respective higher education institutions and promoting the implementation of joint scientific projects for science development.

At the meeting, the parties discussed the formation of relevant working groups to strengthen partnerships in the field of education.

Georgian Emergency and Plenipotentiary Ambassador Giorgi Sharvashidze attended the meeting of ministers of two countries in the Republic of Armenia.
