Rustaveli Theater hosts 80th anniversary of Jamlet Khukhashvili

Tbilisi, Georgia: With the support of the Ministry of Sports, the anniversary evening dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Jamlet Khukhashvili was held at Rustaveli National Theater.

Rustaveli National Theater hosted the anniversary evening of Jamlet Khukhashvili, supported by the government of Georgia.

The event was attended by Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze; Mayor of Tbilisi Kakhi Kaladze; Minister of Culture and Sports Thea Tsulukiani; Minister of Defense Irakli Chikovani; Minister of Education, Science and Youth Giorgi Amilakhvari; Minister of Refugees, Labor, Health and Social Protection Mikheil Sarjveladze; State Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality Tea Akhvle Diane; Deputy Speaker of Parliament Nino Tsilosani; Israeli Ambassador to Georgia Hada Meitsadi; Jamlet Khukhashvili’s wife Eva Babalashvili; family members; colleagues and representatives of the sports world were present.

Nukri Kapanadze, Eka Mamaladze, Maia Jabua, Anri Jokhadze, Bayar Shahin, Jemal Sepiashvili, Neka Sebikveradze, the group Forte, the Abkhazia Song and Dance Ensemble, and actor Nana Pachuashvili participated in the jubilee event. 

Marina Kakhiani and Nikoloz Tsulukidze led the event, which introduced interesting episodes of Jamlet Khukhashvili’s life to the public. Gocha Kapanadze, the artistic director of the Tskhinvali State Dramatic Theater, directed the evening.

Jamlet Khukhashvili has been a sports commentator since 1963. He was an employee of “Imedi” TV, the General Director of Sports Radio “Jako” since 1994, the Head of the Georgian National Basketball Team since 1990, and the President of the Basketball Club “Maccabi.”

Jamlet Khukhashvili is the author of the anniversary book “Attention” (2004), named the best coach of “Dinamo” (1986), and the best sports commentator (2004). Was the chairman of the Jewish World Congress of Georgia.

Jamlet Khukhashvili was an honorary citizen of Tbilisi, an honoured sports achiever, Ivane Javakhishvili, and a cavalier of Olympic medals. In 1998, he was awarded the Order of Honor for his personal contribution to the development and popularization of Georgian sports and to strengthening the relations between Georgian and Jewish people. Jamlet Khukhashvili died on April 5, 2023.
